Our History

Besam has a long history of manufacturing high quality automatic door products. Expert sales and installation is provided throughout North America, as well as service for Besam equipment and all brands of automatic and manual doors.

Besam is proud to be a member of the prestigious ASSA ABLOY group of companies since 2002. Besam goes to market in North America through 18 direct sales locations in major cities and a network of authorized Besam distributor/partners.

1962  -- Besam is founded in Landskrona, Sweden, with initial focus on providing automatic swing door operators for the country’s expanding health care industry

1966 -- Expansion in Europe, initiated by the establishment of Besam UK

1969 -- Production of sliding doors begins, market segments now include transportation and retail

1974 –- Besam enters the US market

1976 – Besam begins offering preventative maintenance and emergency service contracts

1978 – Besam purchases first U.S. district location – New Jersey Automatic Door

1981 – Introduction of VisionPulse® – the industry’s first matless swing door sensing system

1984 –- Revolving doors join the product portfolio and Besam establishes its first company in Asia: Besam Singapore

1989 –Introduction of Eye-Cue® - the industry's first sliding door threshold sensing system

2000 -- Expansion into Australia

2002 -- Acquired by ASSA ABLOY, the world leader in door opening solutions

2003 – Manufacturing operations are relocated to Monroe, NC

2005 – Besam Canada is established to better address the needs of the Canadian market

2005 -- Production plant opens in China, Besam International is renamed ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems

2005 – Introduction of UltraView™ -- the only self-monitoring, recessed sliding door sensor on the market.

2006 –- ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems becomes a stand-alone division within ASSA ABLOY with business focus on providing complete entrance solutions and service
